What to Expect at an In-Lab Sleep Study
You will arrive about an hour to an hour and a half before your usual bedtime. A technician will lead you to your room where you will settle in and complete any unfinished paperwork.

Once you are comfortable, the technician will begin your hook-up. Electrodes will be placed on your head, face, chest, and legs. These will monitor your brain waves, heartbeat, breathing, eye and leg movements, and muscle tension during sleep. This is a non-invasive, painless procedure.

CPAP Titration
If you are diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea, it will be recommended for you to return for a CPAP Titration. This is a second overnight sleep study in which you are treated with a CPAP machine. At this study, the technician starts you at a low air pressure and slowly increases that pressure throughout the night until your respiratory events have been eliminated. The purpose of the study is to determine the optimal CPAP pressure to treat your sleep apnea.
Multiple Sleep Latency Test
This is a series of 4-5 nap opportunities to evaluate for excessive sleepiness. Conditions with this symptom may not include hypersomnias or narcolepsy.
Maintenance of Wakefulness Test
This is a series of 4 test opportunities throughout the day and can help evaluate a patient's level of sleepiness. This test may be used for pilots to determine alertness or for CPAP patients to determine effectiveness of their OSA treatment.
